Once we have the flash drive size, we can use the mkdiskimage tool to create a partition table. This is only required if you plan to use a different partition scheme then the zip disk. We will create the partition table for the zip disk and then make an ISO file from the partition. If you do not use a different partition scheme then we do not need to do this.
Now we have a fully bootable flash drive that can boot into Linux. To check, we can use dd to write to the USB flash and boot it up. If it works, then we are all set.
Now, to format the flash drive to a partitioned disk. In the BIOS you will find the USB HDD boot. This option is not available in the LV-67B bios. So, it is a little different. On the USB HDD boot menu, we need to change the settings so that it thinks that it is a zip drive. This will allow the BIOS to boot from the flash drive.
Press F1 to save and exit the menu. The bios will reboot. Once it is done rebooting, we should be able to see the usb disk drive in the BIOS. If we can see the disk drive, the flash protection should have been disabled.
Open the CMOS setup utility and locate the BIOS flash protection. If it is enabled, please disable it by changing the jumper setting. In this tutorial I will disable it temporarily to allow us to change the jumper setting. Please note that this is not a permanent solution. You should enable the flash protection once you have created your USB flash drive.
Now, we need to format the flash drive to make it a partitioned disk. We will use the mkdiskimage utility to do this. mkdiskimage will create a partition table for the flash drive to allow us to format the flash drive to be a partitioned disk. You may use other partition table applications if you prefer. mkdiskimage will also create the disk image file.
For this, we need to access the Boot Priority settings from the Hard Disk Boot menu. The USB Flash disk might not show up on the Boot Priority list. We need to either add it manually or make the hard drive boot priority higher than the USB Flash disk. 827ec27edc
