Nagarjuna was initially introduced to film industry by actor Allu Rama. He was a regular in Allu Rama's films until the 1970s. His other co-stars included N. T. Rama Rao, Kantham Rami Reddy, Krishnam Raju, Satyanarayana and P. Bhanumathi. Nagarjuna acted in many films as hero and was among the top five Kannada stars in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also a huge hit in the comedy films like Hamrahi, Ganga Amavasya and Kalyana Thulasi. His first Telugu film was Iddaru Ishtam (1974).
